🎓 A brief diversion from my cloud rambling and then back to our regularly scheduled newsletter…

I attended my daughter’s college graduation ceremony this past weekend and couldn’t be more proud of her. Double major while also enrolled in the university honors program, leaves me in awe of her accomplishments. Certainly a proud dad for sure.

The graduating class of 2024 are a resilient bunch and I feel confidence in their enthusiasm, grit, and the way they can handle adversity. Despite beginning their college journey amidst unprecedented challenges—navigating virtual learning, quarantine measures, and limited social interactions—their spirits remain unwavering. Their ability to persevere through adversity fills me with confidence in their future endeavors.

Seeing all the happy young adults with diplomas in hand on Sunday gave me a sense of happiness and gratitude for them. They worked so hard and experienced things most of us didn’t have to endure. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!

📈 For those who haven’t been following earnings reports over the last week or so, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google blew past cloud revenue estimates. By a healthy margin.

Azure Certification Paths

Azure certifications are structured into four levels to cater to professionals at different stages of their cloud career:

  1. Fundamentals Level: This is the starting point for those new to Azure or cloud technology. The Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) certification is designed to validate foundational knowledge of cloud concepts, core Azure services, and Azure management and governance features.

  2. Associate Level: Aimed at professionals with some experience in Azure, these certifications demonstrate more technical skills and knowledge. Examples include Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) and Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204).

  3. Expert Level: These certifications are for seasoned Azure professionals and require a deep understanding of Azure services and solutions. The Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) is a notable certification at this level.

  4. Specialty Level: Specialty certifications focus on specific technical areas within Azure, such as Azure for IoT, Azure for Machine Learning, and more.

AWS Certification Paths

Similarly, AWS offers certifications that align with different expertise levels and job roles:

  1. Foundational Level: The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is the foundational certification that covers basic cloud concepts, AWS services, security, architecture, pricing, and support.

  2. Associate Level: These certifications are for individuals with some practical experience in AWS and validate skills in roles like AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, and AWS SysOps Administrator.

  3. Professional Level: Professional certifications require advanced knowledge of AWS and the ability to design and deploy scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems on AWS. The AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional is an example.

  4. Specialty Level: Specialty certifications demonstrate expertise in specific domains such as Advanced Networking, Security, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics on AWS.

Each level builds upon the previous one, with the complexity and depth of knowledge increasing as you progress. It’s important for professionals to choose a certification path that aligns with their current skills, experience, and career aspirations. Both Azure and AWS certifications are highly regarded in the industry and can significantly enhance a cloud professional’s credibility and career opportunities.

As you consider embarking on this journey, remember that choosing the right certification path is a personal decision. Assess your current skills, experience, and future goals diligently. Whether you're aiming to solidify your foundational understanding, specialize in a particular domain, or advance to expert levels, the choice you make today can shape your career trajectory tomorrow.
